Looking unto Yourself

The past week our church had our annual conference Dreamweek (it is really worth looking up) and we had the opportunity to really sit in the presence of God for three days and listen to powerful men of God. I must admit excitement ran high for most people, but not really for me. Trust me it’s an event worth getting excited for, but I had such a heaviness in my heart that I could not explain. My lack of enthusiasm was further damped by an exhaustion that just seemed to have come out of nowhere.

As I was sitting in one of the sessions, one of the speakers, a man I greatly admire and look up to, was preaching on a topic I was pretty sure I have heard of before. So I must admit that I was rather nonchalant about the whole thing. BUT God….See God always has a word, even when you think you have gone down that route before. I have gone to many Dreamweeks prior to this one, I was extremely excited for every one of them, to the point of no sleep, but this Dreamweek was the most significant yet. In a moment when I was not “tuned” in God revealed to me the biggest thing yet. In that moment God confirmed and clarified a journey I have been walking for six years and a vision I have had for as long as I can remember. As I was sitting in church feeling slightly disappointed that I will not be hearing a new word, God gave me THEE word.

Something happens when we start living a life of purpose; a warrior inside of us awakes and is able to take on the things of God with the strength of God. Needless to say the remainder of the conference was attended with great excitement from my side, but the true revelation really dawned on me when I finally got to spend time alone with God.

When the enemy can keep you busy with trivial things and running in circles, he ensures that you do not reach your full potential. Because when you do that, you become his greatest threat. For a very long time I was caught up in the trivial, at that time it seemed so big, because I was looking unto myself to solve and work through them, instead of looking unto God the author and finisher of my faith. When we turn our eyes to our needs and our issues and live only for our blessing and growth, we miss out on the great things God has in store for us. When we shift from our needs to meet the needs of others God deals with our issues.

I think God knew He did not only have to speak to me about my future, but he had to remind me that this faith race is all about other people, to looked beyond my own needs to those of others. We don’t have to look far to be able to help others, we don’t have to quit our jobs and join the mission field, we can make major impacts right in our back yards. We all have a teacher, a friend, a colleague, a brother, a sister, a mother, a father, someone that needs the word and power of God in their lives.  When our eyes are constantly turned on ourselves instead of God, we miss the point completely. When we start believing who God says He is and who He says we are, we live an empowered and an unstoppable life.

Let the rest of this year be a year you invade your world for Jesus, spend time in His presence and receive all God has for you. Our GOD is ABLE to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think according to His power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20). Maybe we don’t need another makeover, maybe we need a Godover, to start seeing God for who He truly is and not for who our circumstances dictate He is.
