Gossiping is a really bad habit that many of us do and must I add very intentionally.Many times we want to excuse or act like we are not gossiping, but simply sharing info.If the info you share will hurt the person you are talking about's feelings and even their reputation than best believe you are gossiping. Many times we talk to our friends about others and not the good stuff. We spread their problems and discuss it heatedly.

Many times we as Christians want to pretend that we are only discussing someone, because we want to help,but often that talk produces nothing that is off advantage to the person you are talking about.And if help is the motive than instead of talking about the person, talk to the person.

I have been guilty of gossiping with my friends many times.See at the time we thought we where just talking,but that talk in no way glorified God or uplifted the person.Just because you speak in a sympathetic tone does not mean you are not gossiping.

When we talk about other people's mistakes and failures as if it is the latest telenovela,we  are breaking that person down,because many times the talk does not end there,its spreads like a wild fire eventually burning the person you are talking about right out of church.God called us to love our neighbours as we love ourselves.We would never share bad things about ourselves with every Tom, Dick or Harry,yet we see no problem doing it with someone else's life.

We are warned against this practice in the bible many times,but we are so quick to justify our actions that we continue this practice and hurt many in the process.

Ephesians 4:29 "Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, that it may give grace to those who hear.   "

1 Timothy 5:13-14 " And at the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house; and not merely idle, but also gossips and busybodies, talking about things not proper to mention. "

Leviticus 19:16  ''You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand up against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord  "

There is nothing godly about gossip,when a member in your spiritual family, or any one for that matter, goes through something we are called to pray for them,not discuss their problems with the rest of the congregation or your friends.We break down a member in the body of Christ with ill words against others and worse yet we put ourselves above others on a human morality scale,all which is ungodly.

I refuse to be found gossiping again.If ever I am tempted I will have to check my heart as to why I feel the need to discuss other people's weakness,problems and mistakes.I will commit myself to pray for others.Gossiping does not only hurt the person being gossip about, but the gossiper as well.
